Event Information
Oxford Stomp is a long standing tradition in the Calgary Corporate Community and this year’s event, on Friday, July 13th at Fort Calgary, marks its 24th Anniversary. Tickets to this private event include Rotary’s famous beef-on-a-bun dinner, free bus transportation and performances by three international recording artists. Past artists include: INXS (2011), 54-40 (2011), Platinum Blonde (2011), Blue Rodeo (2010), Steven Page (2010), Tom Cochrane (2009) and Glass Tiger (2009).
The Oxford Stomp supports the Rotary Club of Calgary is a registered charity that invests 100% of the proceeds from this event back into the local community through a variety of charitable contributions, most notably the Rotary/Flames House. Last year $75,000 was raised for this very worthy cause!
The Rotary/Flames House is a hospice for children located next to the Alberta Children’s Hospital. Thanks to incredible community support, Calgary is the first city in Alberta and only the sixth in North America to have a free-standing, community-based facility to support families of children facing progressive, chronic or life-limiting illness. The House offers respite for families whose children have very complex medical needs and palliative support as well as end-of-life care. Working with parents, siblings and family and friends, the palliative and grief support team offers hope in the most unimaginable circumstances. We truly appreciate the participation of our sponsors and patrons whose support of this event has helped contribute to this meaningful facility.

Not that I would be able to attend anyway, but looks like this is only for invited guests of the organization. Ticket purchase requires a password provided by the charity.
SuzieH:
Cool, but yes... some kind of private gig. Wonder if any of the Canadians that we know, will go?

2012 Calgary Stampede Countdown: One Month To Go

CALGARY, ALBERTA — Garth Brooks is tuning up, the white hats are in hand, the Stampede Ranch is kicking into high gear, and the flapjack flour is stockpiled. All of Calgary is ready to throw the biggest party on Canadian soil this year. More than a million people are expected for the 100th anniversary of the Calgary Stampede, now just one month away. Here’s a look at the latest happenings as the final preparations for the Stampede are put into place.
Much More Music
With something for everyone, the Coca-Cola Stage impresses with an eclectic schedule announced in late May. “This all-star line-up is talented and diverse. People will really enjoy every single show,” says Lindsay Ell, the Stampede’s programming production manager.
Our Lady Peace takes to the stage opening day, while The Sheepdogs rock out July 11 and electronic band Dragonette, known for its provocative lyrics, revs up the crowds on July 12. Also appearing are rockers Simple Plan and Big Sugar, rapper K’Naan and country crooner George Canyon. Mother Mother closes the place down on July 15.
With performances included in gate admission, there’s often a crowd surrounding the stage by noon on the day of sought-after performances, so plan your midway and rodeo activities accordingly. Better yet, purchase the new Midway Access Express Pass ($20) and get to the front of the lines every time. Valid only during the day of purchase, this pass is available (day of) on a first come, first serve basis at Stampede Park.
Rounding off the entertainment, who could forget about the Oxford Stomp? This private corporate event for the clients, tenants and staff of Oxford properties and other sponsors, takes place on the last Friday of the Stampede (July 13 this year) from 3 pm on. This year, the Goo Goo Dolls, Theory of a Deadman and Big Wreck will rock the crowds at Fort Calgary. Don’t worry if you’re not eligible to purchase a ticket ($65 plus GST and fees), they’re easy to come by if you lurk around the Fort late that afternoon.

I did quite a bit of research on this event as I was considering going. Turns out it isn't feasible for me with the cost of airfare, etc. but if you are within driving distance you might want to consider going. From what I've read, this looks like a whole lot of fun and a huge event (7,000 people). I also read that it is true that you need to be "invited," but that all you really need is access to the password. I ran across a forum where someone had posted the code for 2010. It was STOMP2010, so I figured I'd give STOMP2012 a try, and sure enough it works!! You can purchase tickets online at oxfordstomp.com. They don't send tickets out in advance, you have to specify local pick-up or will call at the venue. Anyway, just thought I'd share this information with those of you that might want to go to this one. It is GA, so I would go really early to get a good spot up front!
