Goo Goo Dolls on Large Stage 24. Przystanek Woodstock
Goo Goo Dolls are absolute leaders when it comes to radio charts – over the 31-year career in the music industry, they climbed to the top of the charts 14 times, thus establishing the best result in the history of the Hot AC format (Hot AC is the name of the radio a musical format that presents entertainment music from the 1990s, selected for specific criteria, and contemporary pieces). The most-known hit Goo Goo Dolls, “Iris”, remained on the hit list of the opinion-making magazine “Billboard” for a year, ranking first in the ranking for 17 consecutive weeks.
This hit, written for the soundtrack of the classic film “City of Angels” is one of the most recognizable musical works of the last decade of the twentieth century. The song achieved not only commercial success but also received critical acclaim: it was nominated for several Grammy Awards in 2008 – among others, it received a prestigious nomination for the recording of the year. The song is unique not only because of the popularity you enjoy. In 2012, the recording reached the platinum status, and was recognized as the best single from 1992 to 2012 by the Billboard magazine. Other songs of Goo Goo Dolls, which were on the list of the 100 best songs, were “Slide”, which ranked 9th and “Name”, which took 24th position.
The author of the text and the vocalist, Rzeznik, describes the inspiration for creating the text for “Iris” in the following way:
I was thinking about the situation where the protagonist is played by Nicolas Cage. This guy was ready to give up immortality just to be able to feel human emotions. And I thought to myself: wow! It must be wonderful, love someone so much that you can give up everything and give up everything to be together.
Musicians creating Goo Goo Dolls: Rzeznik and Takac are also known for their commitment to charity. Musicians promote the activity of banks food , encouraging their fans to bring products, engage in charity concerts for charities, fund scholarships for promising young musicians and pay generous sums for initiatives related to helping the needy.
Przystanek Woodstock is the largest music festival in Poland and one of the largest in Europe. Its next year’s edition will take place on 2-4 August 2018 in Kostrzyn nad Odrą (Lubuskie Voivodeship). On the 4 stages, dozens of performers from Poland and the world will be presented. As part of the Academy of Fine Arts, there will be meetings with eminent figures of the world of culture, politics andsport . Festival participants will also be able to take part in various forms of artistic workshops and engage in a number of social and civic initiatives. During the Przystanek Woodstock there will be many public benefit organizations and a whole range of educational and sporting projects will be implemented.
The organizer of the event is the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity Foundation, which in this way would like to thank the Polish youth for her involvement in the WOŚP winter finale. The concert is non-commercial, not premedified, and funds for its organization are provided by numerous sponsors. The festival can not be and is not financed from funds collected during the WOŚP Finale.
