WESTFIELD, NJ — Goo Goo Dolls frontman John Rzeznik performed a livestreamed and socially distant charity concert from the James Ward Mansion in Westfield Sunday.
Hosted by town, the concert is among a series of initiatives raising money for local and regional food pantries amid a rise in food insecurity — the result of economic fallout from the pandemic.
“Help your neighbors out because that’s what’s going to make the biggest difference,” Rzeznik said. “By sticking together, that’s how we’re going to get through this whole thing.”
The effort comes amid a 58% increase in food insecure residents in Union County, according to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey.
Statewide, the number of people who are food insecure is anticipated to increase by 56%, representing 431,060 people, according to Feeding America, a nationwide nonprofit network of food banks.
Click here to learn more about the fundraiser, which includes an online auction where bids can be placed on items such as a Taylor guitar used by Rzeznik, a live performance by the singer, and the opportunity to win a limited-edition Goo-Goo Dolls Crosley turntable. The auction runs through Dec. 18 at 11:59 p.m.
