Goo Goo Dolls Revisit 'Dizzy Up The Girl' on 20th Anniversary Tour
Rock veterans celebrate their 1997 multi-platinum blockbuster with shows this fall

By Elias Leight

Goo Goo Dolls will mark the 20th anniversary of their multi-platinum album Dizzy Up the Girl on tour this fall. The band kicks off September 30th in Phoenix, Arizona and winds back around to end in Las Vegas, Nevada.

During each show, the Goo Goo Dolls plan to perform one portion of the show devoted to Dizzy followed by a second with other requisite songs. The 1997 album was a commercial zenith for the alt-rock group. The album included two of the band's biggest hits, "Iris" and "Slide." The record sold over four million copies in the United States, according to the RIAA.

In an interview with Billboard last year, lead singer John Rzeznik said he never tired of playing hits like "Iris." "It's as new as the first day I played it," he said. "I just find myself always grateful that song came into my life ... It's one of those things like getting hit by lightning: It doesn't happen very often."

The band's most recent full-length, Boxes, came out in 2016. They released the You Should Be Happy EP last year.

Pop the champagne — Edmonton has a new, nostalgia-driven music festival!

On Saturday, June 23, the decidedly ’90s-vibed Soundtrack Music Festival Vol. 1 will bring TLC, Goo Goo Dolls, Blind Melon, MA$E and Eve 6 to Kinsman Park. The one-day show will also feature Wannabe (A Spice Girls Tribute), Notorious YEG and former MuchMusic VJ Master T as the event’s MC.

TLC sold more than 65 million records worldwide on the back of such hits as Waterfalls and No Scrubs — you probably have your own Purple Onion dance floor favourite — while Goo Goo Dolls’ lighter-to-the-sky hit Iris has a nine-figure YouTube presence.

Gates will open at 1 p.m. on the day of the event, and all tickets are general admission, starting at $89 plus bonus charges, bumping up to $99 after the first wave of 2,000 tickets are sold. The total head count will be 7,500 party animals.

Stage facing east, the event will live on the field between the Walterdale and High Level bridges — don’t go chasing waterfalls, indeed — and will also have TBA art and performance aspects.

A fundraiser put on by Kinsmen Club of Edmonton — which also unleashed the excellent I Love The ’90s show last March — tickets go on sale online at 10 a.m. Friday.

The Goo Goo Dolls will be playing at the Soundtrack Music Festival in Edmonton 6/23.  Pre-sale tickets go on sale 4/5 10am-10pm MST.  Public tickets on sale 4/6 at 10am MST.
