Hey Hey In Rockers! Thanks for stopping in and welcome to The Lobby for this month's edition, I'm here in Buffalo with my family between shows as Goo Goo Dolls went from a quiet year of a few scattered shows to a nearly weekly journey flying around the US bringing our rock show to destinations far and wide. Normally Goo Goo Dolls move forward with extended touring situations, months on end doing 5-6 shows a week traveling mostly by tour bus and moving from city to city overnight as we travel. This sort of short run touring on an extended basis is something new for us, having a flight, doing a show, sleeping where we played, jumping on another flight, doing another a show, and then going home for a few days just to repeat that situation for the next 10 months. As I said, it's a different way of doing it, and we'll see if it's something we like! But… either way, it will be back to a normal schedule next year as we plan on some extensive touring throughout the US and the world in 2025!
Total Eclipse 2024 was a pretty big deal here in the US, our hometown of Buffalo was right in the direct path of the eclipse, so my family and friends got to enjoy the once in a lifetime experience at home with friends and family, it was a cloudy day in Buffalo, but the event was nonetheless breathtaking for everyone. I'm not sure what the government here thought was going to happen, but there states of emergency declared, streets closed and all sorts of precautions taken before the vent, as isai, not quite sure why though. It was literally one of the most peaceful things I have ever experienced. I was elsewhere that day as Goo Goo Dolls were invited to play Eclipse Fest in Fredericksburg, Texas along with rock bands Switchfoot and our old friends Fastball from Austin Texas. 2.5 hours away from San Antonio in the middle of nowhere we came upon a remote compound with a stage, and they were all set for a rock show with The Eclipse as the headliner!
It was unfortunately a cloudy day in Fredericksburg as well, but some breaks in the clouds allowed us to see a bit of the eclipse as the skies went dark and the birds at the remote resort hosting the event went silent as the moon passed through the path of the sun. I know there was a partial eclipse in Japan, I hope some of you got to enjoy at least part of the experience as we did, in another 100 years or so and we can do it all again!
It's gonna be a quick column this month as we head out tomorrow morning for a few more shows across the US, I hope all of you enjoyed the Cherry Blossoms this year, our annual Buffalo Cherry Blossom Festival is this weekend, we look forward to the events over the weekend even though the blossoms came very early this year. Here in the US the festival dates are set a year in advance so we tend to miss the blossoms some years, but the celebration of Spring is still very welcome here in Buffalo! I'll be back next month with more from my travels and I hope you all have a great month, thanks for stopping in and we'll see you all soon here in The Lobby in the pages of the mighty InRock !
Peace!
