John Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls, “American Idol” vet Phillip Phillips and singer/songwriter James Arthur are among the artists to land tracks on the 29th annual “Cities 97 Sampler.”
Priced at $14.97, the CD will go on sale online via cities97.com at 9 a.m. Monday. In-person sales open at 7 a.m. Tuesday at metro area Target stores.
The popular “Sampler” offers live performances exclusive to the CD, with most recorded in Cities 97’s Studio C. It often sells out, with proceeds benefiting a collection of Minnesota charities. This year’s edition is expecting to bring the all-time total raised from the series to nearly $13 million.
The 19 songs include selections from newcomers (Ocean Park Standoff, Tom Walker, Muna), “Sampler” veterans (Andy Grammer, Andrew McMahon, James Blunt, Fitz and the Tantrums) and one local, Plymouth native Julia Brennan whose single “Inner Demons” earned some airplay over the summer.
Rzeznik, Phillips, Ocean Park Standoff and Shawn Hook will perform at a “Sampler” release party on Nov. 17 at the Myth in Maplewood. Tickets are only available to listeners who win them from the station.
